TAZ

Published:

Yesterday evening I wanted to listen to some music on youtube, and among the suggested videos, I saw this apparently harmless one. I knew the song, and, as a fan of animated videos with lyrics, I immediately opened it.

From the first viewing I was struck by the phenomenal animation and style, but I also had the feeling that something was missing. A brief reading of the video description revealed the mystery: the characters featured in the video were taken from TAZ (The Adventure Zone), a podcast of a D&d adventure I had never heard of.

Out of curiosity, I tried to find some more information on youtube, and although I didn’t initially find what I would have expected, that is, a summary of the entire adventure, I found something much more precious: a large collection of animations, mostly musical, about this campaign. As I continued to watch others, that feeling that I love and hate so much at the same time, the impression of being in front of something immense, made its way inside me. I was sure I was facing a thrilling story, but what really struck me is how, despite not having a complete picture, or even an accurate version of the story, what I was able to put together only from the vision of the aforementioned videos managed to arouse in me these strong (and at times contrasting) emotions.

Maybe the reason is that, since the information obtained was fragmentary, all the narration took place in my mind, filling the gaps in the way that was most congenial to me. Even now, if it were a matter of writing the whole story in detail, I wouldn’t even know how to start. But every time I think about the incredible scope of the story, its implications, the themes dealt with and the vicissitudes faced, even though I only imagined them, I can’t help but feel that mysterious asmr in my brain.
